The importance of green education at 18th Days of the Croatian Chamber of Civil Engineers

Nowadays construction industry, in addition to economic and technical performance, is also evaluated by its life cycle impact on the environment. The impact of structures on the environment was introduced in the Construction Act as the seventh basic requirement, defined as the sustainable use of natural resources, and includes the reuse or possibility of recycling the building, its materials and parts after removal, the durability of the building and the use of environmentally acceptable raw materials and secondary materials. The next step is the obligation to quantify and express the total impact of the structure on the environment, and to evaluate this impact when deciding on solutions or contractors through the so-called green procurement. Employers have recognized the need for green building certifiers and sustainability managers within business entities, but are there engineers trained for these occupations?

During the 18th Days of the Croatian Chamber of Civil Engineers, GREENCO presented an overview of the skills, competencies, and additional education opportunities for civil engineers in the field of sustainable construction.
