Dynamic Life Cycle Assessment course: capacity building for teachers, trainers, educators and green skills acquisition for masters and PhD students

A new course entitled "Dynamic Life Cycle Assessment of Construction Components" (12941) started on 21 March as part of the EU GREENCO project. This course, which takes place at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), is a 5 ECTS PhD course on dynamic life cycle assessment of construction components and is led by Professor Lisbeth M. Ottosen and Assistant Professor Rune Andersen. The course is structured as a hybrid course, so students have the option to participate either in person at DTU or online via the Zoom platform.

Students are encouraged to work with case studies and data from their research. In cases where a student doesn't have a relevant case study, the necessary data will be provided by the course coordinator. Throughout the course, the basic concepts and workflows of the LCA method are covered, as well as its strengths and weaknesses and the methods for communicating results. An introduction to EPDs will provide students with a basic understanding of their creation, review and application, as well as key considerations for their implementation. Each lecture is accompanied by exercises where students can receive assistance, guidance and feedback. In addition, work and supervision sessions will be organised between lectures to support students with their final LCA assignment, which will be submitted at the end of the course. In addition, an optional lecture on LCA at building level using the Danish tool LCABYG and EPDs will be given during the course. The course activities will be based on data from case studies in the construction industry or from students' research projects.
