Coordinator of the GREENCO project in the ''Zelena Linija''

Associate Professor Marijana Serdar from the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Zagreb took part in the TV programme 'Zelena linija' on HRT4, which was broadcast on Thursday, 2 May, accompanied by the Head of the Department of Green Urban Infrastructure and Circular Spatial and Building Management at the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and State Property, architect Ines Androić Brajčić.

The discussion centred on the cities of the future, with a focus on the green transformation. Professor Serdar pointed out the main problem - the lack of well-trained engineers with the skills needed to implement green building. This includes the use of new materials such as mixed concrete, which can bind CO2, and a general awareness of the need to renovate infrastructure and not just construct new buildings. Finally, Croatia is facing significant changes. According to EU directives, all new buildings must be carbon neutral by 2030, and all public buildings must achieve this by 2028.

Marijana also emphasised that due to the insufficient education of young engineers in the field of sustainable construction, an elective subject 'Green Building' was established last year. In addition, the Faculty of Civil Engineering is currently running the GREENCO project, which aims to bridge the gap between education and industry requirements and produce a skilled workforce equipped with the knowledge and tools for a greener future.
